Bergren Forum February 26th 12:10-1pm in Nevins Theater Meg Bernstein Lithic Lessons: An Art Historian’s Approach to Stonecarving
Most medieval sculpture is carved from stone; thanks to IFFD funds, I had the opportunity to take a stone carving course, as well as organize a series of workshops at a UK conference on stone carving and collaborative research. In this Bergren Forum talk, I share some of what I’ve learned from a bit of embodied experience with the materials I research and the way it has begun to (re)shape my ideas about medieval stone sculpture.

REGULAR BUILDING HOURS
MILLER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to midnight
SCHOOL OF ART & DESIGN BUILDINGS Cohen Art Barn, Harder Hall, Binns Merrill Hall & Hall of Glass are open to undergraduate students Monday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. - with limited entrance access from 10 p.m. to midnight. Doors remaining unlocked from 10 p.m. to midnight include:
- Hall of Glass (back door)
- Hall of Glass (front door)
- Harder Hall loading dock door
- Harder Hall door that is closest to the outdoor kiln facility (a single door with a railing facing the parking lot)
- McGee main door facing Allen Way (Harder Hall Lobby).
At 12 a.m., all doors are locked. Undergraduate students who are in the building may remain until 2 a.m.
We trust that all students will respect the exit time and acknowledge the efforts of our public safety officers and facilities staff time and duties.
WOODSHOP HOURS To be announced! Likely Monday to Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
COMPUTER STUDIO HOURS To be announced! For currently enrolled SOAD students
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Harder Hall 517 Additional hours will be posted soon *Note: subject to change based on studio assistants and school closings
POST ONLY ON GOLD INFORMATION BOARDS Help our custodial staff and hang flyers, posters, postcards and other paper only on the gold information boards. Tape damages paint and is difficult to remove from windows. Items posted on windows, stairwells, walls, columns or elevators will be removed.
PHOTO RELEASE For faculty, staff, students, alumni and visitors to the New York State College of Ceramics and Performing Arts; including the Inamori School of Engineering, Libraries, School of Art & Design and the Performing Arts Division.
ALFRED ART WALK The third Thursday of every month is the Alfred Art Walk which features the Arts Speaker Series- and the galleries are open late. Third Thursdays are the perfect opportunity to host pop-up events, exhibitions, performances, sales, studio tours and more.
